The main alloying elements of 6061 aluminum sheet metal are magnesium and silicon and form the Mg2Si. If it contains a certain amount of manganese and chromium, it can neutralize the bad effect of iron. Sometimes it also can be added a small amount of copper or zinc to increase the strength of the alloy without significantly reducing its corrosion resistance. When used for conductive material, there is also a small amount of copper to offset the adverse effects of titanium and iron on the conductivity. The zirconium or titanium can refine the grain and control the recrystallization structure. In order to improve the machinability, lead and tantalum can be added. In Mg2Si, the ratio of Mg and Si is 1.73. In the heat treatment state, Mg2Si is solid-melted in aluminum, so that the 6061 aluminum alloy has an artificial age hardening function.
